Guard, brother held for killing wife & dumping headless body in Bhayander creek
The victim was later identified as Anjali Singh (23), a Nepal national, who had married Mittu from Sitamarhi village on the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar three years ago.
MUMBAI: A security guard and his brother have been arrested for allegedly killing his Nepalese wife, decapitating her head, dismembering her body, stuffing it in a trolley bag and dumping it in the Bhayander creek last month.
The bag with the headless body washed ashore on the beach in Utan, Bhayander (W), on Friday around 8am. The victim was then unidentified. Less than 24 hours later, police nabbed Mittu Singh (31) from Dadar railway station. His elder brother Chunchun (35), a security supervisor from Kandivli was also arrested, said DCP Jayant Bajbale.
The victim was later identified as Anjali Singh (23), a Nepal national, who had married Mittu from Sitamarhi village on the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar three years ago. They have a 14-month-old son.
Mittu, who worked in a building in Nalasopara, told police that he suspected Anjali of having an affair and killed her with a chopper knife after an argument in their rented Naigaon home on May 24. He said he called Chunchun and together they chopped off her head, cut the body into two parts, stuffed them in plastic bags and then inside a trolley bag and dumped it in Bhayander creek. The brothers told the police that the head was also thrown into the creek. Police are yet to recover the head and the knife.
The recently made tattoo of a trident and Om on the body helped cops identify Anjali. The plastic bags in which the two body parts were wrapped were from Naigaon.
Police said Anjali was active on social media and had upoaded her tattoo-making process. Mittu was against the tattoo and was also upset about her posting the videos. Anjali was paying for the tattoo in instalments and used to often chat with the artist, police said, so Mittu suspected her of having an affair.
Police said after dumping the body in Bhayander creek, Mittu went to Nepal with his son and handed him over to Anjali's parents. He returned to the Naigaon flat, packed all of his wife's valuables and left home.
He was tracked based on his call data records and arrested from Dadar, police said. Utan police have booked the two brothers for murder.
