Close contest in yoga marks Khelo India Univ Games grand finale
Varanasi: The grand, eventful Khelo India University Games hosted by Uttar Pradesh drew to a close in the presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Union sports minister Anurag Thakur at Techno Pavilion in Gymkhana ground of IIT(BHU) here on Saturday.
Before the closing ceremony, in which cultural events were cancelled in view of the Odisha train mishap, Thakur Savitri Bai Phule University Pune defeated Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University in a neck and neck contest by 0.23 points to win the gold medal in the men’s category of the Yogasana event at Ramesh Srinivasan hall of IIT (BHU). SPU performed brilliantly and scored 399.50 marks while RTMNU finished with 399.27 marks and had to be content with the silver medal. The team of Guru Jambeshwar University of Science and Technology was at third place with 398.91 points, taking home bronze medal.
At Yogasana events of KIUG held under the supervision of the National Yogasan Sports Federation in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India and the Uttar Pradesh Sports Department, the Chaudhary Bansilal University team secured the fourth position, scoring 398.57 points. Panjab University team finished fifth with 394.81 points. Shivaji University got the sixth position with 394.14 points while Gurugram University’s team scored 387.29 to stay seventh place.
Gold winning SPU team comprising Kunal Vitthal, Vishnu Chakraborty M, Deepanshu Solanki, Siddharth Madhukar Davde, Vaishnav Sanjay Karde and Nitin Tanaji Pavle performed excellently. Due to it Ramanand Devaji Rout, Om Dinesh Rakhade, Pranay Kangle, Harshal Vilas, Vaibhav Balachandra Deshmukh and Vaibhav Vaman Srirame of RTMNU had to satisfy with the silver medal despite performing outstandingly.
