PM Modi has to answer questions on crash, but let’s focus on rescue & relief now: Congress
NEW DELHI: Congress on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw have a lot to explain on the train accident in Balasore in Odisha, but the party will hold its questions for future as the immediate focus is on rescue and relief operations.
Party president Mallikarjun Kharge called the accident a “national tragedy” and urged all political parties and voluntary bodies to join the efforts to bring succour to victims and their families.
“We have many questions to ask of the great Prime Minister and railway minister. They have to answer why such things are happening and who is responsible for it. But I will ask these questions later. Today, we have to focus on the immediate task of rescue and relief,” Kharge said.
Congress leader Sonia Gandhi said, “I am most pained and anguished by the terrible train disaster in Odisha. I extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to all the bereaved families. ”Meanwhile, Congress stayed away from television debates on train accident on Saturday, saying the priority was to come together and stand with victims. Party members, from veteran Digvijaya Singh to Lok Sabha MP Saptgiri Ulaka, demanded that railway minister Vaishnaw resign in the wake of the accident.
