GURGAON: Six persons were handed seven years' imprisonment for abducting a father-son duo and a relative in 2016 and robbing them of their valuables.
On September 25, 2016, Ajay Mangal, his father Hukum Chand, cousin Gaurav Goyal and driver Manoj were returning to Gurgaon from Mathura in their Innova. Around 11.20pm, they were intercepted by an SUV on the Palwal-Sohna road. Four armed men stepped out of the SUV, abducted the Ajay and the others and took them to a bajra field in Nuh.
The gang took away their cash, jewellery, mobile phones and other valuables. After robbing them, they dropped the victims in another village and fled. An FIR was registered the next day under sections 341 (wrongful restraints), 342 (confining a person), 365 (abduction), 379 (theft), 384 (extortion) and 395 (dacoity) of the IPC and relevant provisions of the Arms Act at Sohna police station. Later that year, the gang members were arrested.
Sumer Singh, the public prosecutor, said, "The complainant supported the case and identified the accused."
Rajesh Kumar, the counsel representing the gang members, said his clients were framed in the case. "They deserved to be given the benefit of doubt. But the order was not in our favour," he added.
Additional sessions judge Jasbir Singh passed the verdict on June 1.
"The prosecution has succeeded in proving the charges beyond the shadow of doubt," the court observed.
