RAIPUR: A gunfight broke out between security personnel and Maoists in Sukma district of Bastar division on Saturday morning.
Police say four insurgents were injured but were dragged away by the retreating cadres. Sukma SP Kiran Chavan said that a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel had set out on a search operation after getting specific inputs about presence of Maoist commander Mangdu, Vetti Bheema and other cadres of Konta area committee in the jungles of Regadgatta and Maraiguda, close to the Andhra Pradesh border.
When the troops closed in on the Maoists near Regadgatta, they came under fire, said the SP.
The gunfight was short but fierce and the police reported seeing three to four Maoists being hit by bullets in the first few minutes.
Outgunned, the Maoists fled, taking away the injured cadres.
