GURGAON: A man was booked on Friday for allegedly cheating a Sector 9 resident of Rs 23 lakh after promising to get his son employed as a Delhi Police constable. The victim paid the money after being assured that his son would clear the written exam and physical test. But the candidate failed.
The accused has been absconding ever since.
According to police, 55-year-old complainant Dhan Singh was introduced to the accused, identified as Satyaprakash Gupta, by a colleague in 2021. Satyaprakash assured Singh that he would get his 25-year-old son placed as a constable with the Delhi Police.
"Ahead of the Delhi Police constable exam in January 2021, a colleague of mine introduced me to Satyaprakash who claimed to have good connections with influential people. He promised us that he'll use his contacts and get my son placed as a constable in Delhi Police. For this, I paid him Rs 4.65 lakh in his account and the remaining amount was handed over to him in cash," Singh said in his complaint.
However, months later when Singh's son did not clear the exam and received no communication about his placement, Singh tried contacting Gupta and demanded his money back.
"I approached him a couple of times and he kept promising to return my money. In August last year, he gave me a cheque of Rs 23 lakh twice, but both times the cheque bounced. When I approached him again, he threatened to kill me and used racial slurs against me," Singh said.
Following the complaint, the police have registered a case in Sector 9A police station against the accused under sections 420 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 406 (breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
"We have registered a case based on the complaint. A team has been deployed to locate the accused and nab him," said Gurgaon police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
