Indian Army’s Narangi Military Station develops ‘green corridor’ to mitigate animal-human conflict

In a bid to save wildlife and mitigate conflict between humans and elephants, Indian Army has generated a unique ecosystem. Wild elephants from Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary regularly visit Indian Army’s Narangi Military Station spread across 300 acres which is situated near Wildlife Sanctuary. In a bid to mitigate conflict in military station premises, the military station has made a green corridor for the free movement of elephants. In the area of the military station, the Indian army has created several ponds and has planted fruit trees and grasses for wild elephants. Along with this Army is also resorting to the use of technology, in this thread Army has installed around 30 CCTVs, and night vision cameras in the military station to monitor the movement of wild elephants. GOC of 51 Sub Area, Guwahati, Major General RK Jha spoke on the arrangements and said help of local community, scientific community and forest officials have been taken. According to the Indian Army and Assam forest department there are around 90 wild elephants living in the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary who often visited the military station.
