HYDERABAD: Over 35,000 aspirants from the two Telugu states will take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Advanced on Sunday. With JEE-Main topper being a student from Hyderabad, academics have predicted yet another year of top scores from the twin states.
Around 1.9 lakh of 2.5 lakh students, who cleared JEE-Main, have registered this year for Advanced. The highest number of applicants are from Hyderabad, Patna, Jaipur, Vijayawada and Bengaluru. "I think the candidates this year are going to do better compared to last year's batch. Last year, students had two years of online classes. However, this batch had a year of offline classes, which helped them a lot. In 2016, paper, especially physics, was extremely tough. In 2017, it was relatively easy," said Manikanta Kumar, centre head, FIITJEE, Madhapur. This year, IIT-Guwahati would conduct test in a computer-based mode in two sessions.
Meanwhile, students from city have exudeded confidence in cracking the test. "Since I attempted a couple of engineering entrance exams before this, I feel more confident about this one," said Shiva Raj, a student from Kukatpally, adding that he was confident about 11-hour prep he put in.
Another student, Pramod said, "I have been dedicating eight hours a day to my preparation, focusing on areas that need reinforcement."
