NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has arrested two men and apprehended a juvenile for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old boy and robbing him of his scooter and valuables in southeast Delhi's Badarpur area on Friday.
Senior officials said the attack was allegedly the fallout of a previous enmity wherein the victim had thrashed the brother of one of the assailants, who has a previous criminal record. The boy who was stabbed is receiving treatment, police said.
The stabbing was caught on CCTV cameras and shared widely on social media. This is the second such horrific incident caught on camera after the recent Shahbad Dairy case where a 16-year-old girl was stabbed and killed in public. The incident has led to a massive uproar online about public safety in the capital.
The arrested men have been identified as Deepak (24), a history-sheeter from Badarpur, and Vicky (25) from the same area, police said. The juvenile who was apprehended also lives in the same area.
According to police, after the incident was reported on Friday, several teams were formed to arrest the assailants. "The team, after gathering local intelligence, managed to identify the juvenile who was involved in the crime. Based on technical surveillance and on analysing the call detail records, the location of the juvenile was zeroed in. He was apprehended following a raid," said Rajesh Deo, deputy commissioner of police (South-East).
Further, based on his disclosure, his associates, who could be seen in the camera footage, were also arrested. "During interrogation, Deepak disclosed that the injured boy, Sumit, had thrashed his brother Sunny about two months ago. In order to take revenge, he and his two associates attacked Sumit and robbed him of his scooter and mobile phone," the officer said.
The team has recovered the robbed scooter and mobile phone, and a knife used in the offence, police said, adding that further investigation is going on.
