Ride bicycle to lead a healthy life: Docs

PATNA: Over 200 doctors, staff and medical students of All India Institute of Medical Sciences-Patna (AIIMS-P), led by the executive director Dr G K Pal, on Saturday took out a cycle rally to aware people of the health benefits of cycling on the occasion of the World Bicycle Day.
After pedalling around different departments and blocks in the hospital premises, Dr Pal urged people, including attendants, to prefer cycling as a mode of local transportation thus, making it a part of their normal routine.
Medical superintendent Dr C M Singh called for developing a bicycle-friendly infrastructure in cities, such as dedicated cycle path and secured parking slot at all commercial and other premises.
Dr Anil Kumar, head of trauma surgery and the programme organiser said, “Cycling is a low impact exercise that strengthens muscles and enhances the cardiovascular health. It is beneficial in treatment of diabetes, hypertension, stress, obesity and joint pain.”
Cycling also helps in saving of fuel and lowering the incidents of life-threatening road accidents often leading to severe trauma.
Many seniors faculty members including Dr Prem Kumar (head of radiodiagnosis and research dean), Dr Kranti Bhawna, Dr Sudeep Kumar, Dr Binod Pati, Dr Pradeep Kumar shared their experiences and benefit of cycling and urged others to change their lifestyle. “Regular bicycling will help people in getting rid of various health problems,” they said.
