Migrant labourers bear crash brunt
The list of the injured migrant labourers from the state is growing by the hour
KOLKATA: Scores of migrant labourers from Bengal who were going to south India for a living will never be able to remit money home. While some have lost their lives, the accident has injured many critically. They might not be able to work even after they recuperate.
Three brothers from the Sundarbans - Nisikanta, Haran and Dibakar Gayen - died in Friday's accident along with two of their cousins - Bikash and Sanjay Halder. Also on the list of the deceased are Safiq Kazi from Barsul in East Burdwan, 18 year-old Chattu Sardar from Karui in Katwa, Sk Munna from Sankrail in Howrah, Tikiapara resident Md Arman, Premik Ghosh (22) of Farakka and Munshi Tudu (33) from Beldanga, Sagar Kharia from Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri and tea-seller Palash Mondal, a resident of Nalpur in Sankrail.
The list of the injured migrant labourers from the state is growing by the hour. Four of the same family of migrant workers from Dhubulia were injured in the accident. Similarly, two from Karui, three from Haripal, a group of nine labourers from Purulia's Bandowan and six from Murshidabad were critically injured.
Some migrant labourers from Bengal remained missing till last reports came in. Among them are Sanjay Sardar (40) and Sristi Ray (36) from Katwa and Tarun Roy of Moynaguri.
