HYDERABAD: A friend of a woman driver, caught for driving under the influence of alcohol, has been booked for allegedly sending abusive and threatening messages to traffic police officers following an argument on May 21.
Around 1am on May 21, Banjara Hills police, who were conducting a drunken drive check on Road Number 14, Banjara Hills, stopped a car driven by a 30-year-old woman. “When subjected to a breathalyser test, she was found drunk. Her
test reading was 136 mg/100 ml (norm: 30mg/100ml). She was informed that her vehicle will be released if she can call a driver, who is sober. Otherwise, she can take vehicle the next day from the police station,” Banjara Hills traffic inspector T Narasimha Raju said.
As police were all set to seize the car, the woman called a man for help. After he landed at the spot around 1.45am, the man started arguing with police. He showed copies of judgments and insisted that the car be released immediately. Finally, when the woman called a driver, police released the car.
After the car was released, the woman's friend allegedly started sending text and voice messages to the traffic inspector and the ACP, who is his immediate superior officer, using abusive language.
The traffic inspector subsequently lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills law and order police by furnishing the abusive voice and text messages allegedly sent by the offender.
As the charges were non cognizable in nature, court permission was sought and, after receiving permission, a case was registered under Sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 189 (Threat of injury to public servant), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC against the accused by police on June 2.
Police found that the accused is a resident of Secunderabad and he would be issued a notice to appear before the investigation officer (IO) for questioning.
