Drop-out returns after 10 years, tops night schools
Nagpur: More than a decade ago, Shubham Gour (28) was studying in Std X at Govardhandas Rawal High School, but couldn’t appear in the SSC examination in 2010-11 after his father met with an accident.
With his father, the lone earning member of his family, left disabled, the responsibility of running the house fell on the young Shubham’s shoulders. Being the eldest son, Shubham took up a petty job at MIDC Hingna to ensure his younger brother and sister completed their education while he also fulfilled the family’s basic needs.
On Friday, destiny rewarded him for his sacrifice 12 years ago, as Shubham emerged topper among night school students with 70% marks.
In the meanwhile, his sister has completed her MBA while his brother did BCom and joined him as a sales executive at an automobile firm. As all three siblings are earning and supporting their parents, Shubham said he too would now like to do BCom and MBA.
Among other night school students, Rufaida Begum (20), who too had dropped out of Std VIII in 2015, topped among girls in night schools with 62%.
Both Shubham and Rufaida are students of Shri Shivaji Night School.
Rufaida was disillusioned with school education and decided to pursue alima course (religious studies) for the last five years. After completing the alima course, she returned to school education and cleared her Std IX exam. She now wants to be a doctor.
Tajbaba Night School and Jawahar Night school had pass percentage of 91% each while Saraswati Night School had 83% followed by Nagpur Night at 63%. Shri Shivaji Night scored 41%.
