KTC takes charge of taxis for government departments
Panaji: The Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) has written to the state government to issue a circular to all its departments to borrow taxis from them henceforth. Until now, the taxis were being borrowed from the GTDC.
“For any requirement, the departments will have to seek approval from the government and forward us the same. Following which, we will send the vehicle along with a driver. The department will have to pay the driver every month on kilometer basis,” said KTC managing director Derek Pereira Neto.
The KTC has invited applications from taxi operators for hiring of taxis on a monthly basis for a five-year period. The vehicles to be hired are AC sedans, AC hatchbacks, AC MUVS, AC SUVS, luxury cars and non-AC vehicles.
In addition to this, the KTC is also in the process of taking charge of private buses in a pilot project. The state government has invited applications from private bus owners to empanel their private stage carriage buses to operate under the Maji Bus Scheme.
“The conductor will be provided by KTC and we will pay them Rs 36 per kilometer. We will gauge the revenue from the project for six months and modify it accordingly. Following which, we can attempt full fledged operations throughout Goa,” Neto said.
