NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court on Friday allowed jailed Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia to meet his wife between 10am and 5pm on Saturday.
Sisodia's wife, Seema, suffers from multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disorder. The former deputy chief minister, who is in jail in the Delhi excise policy case, has moved court for interim bail on the ground of her health. While allowing Sisodia to meet his wife, the court said no gadget would be allowed and there won't be any interaction with the media.
The single-judge bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma also said, "Enforcement Directorate (ED) shall furnish a status report on the interim bail plea by tomorrow (Saturday) evening," the court added, reserving its verdict. ED has opposed the plea.
Meanwhile, special judge MK Nagpal asked Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday to provide documents, including the copies of its chargesheet and supplementary chargesheet, to four accused, including Sisodia, in the excise policy case.
The court directed CBI to supply the copies to the accused, including Hyderabad-based chartered accountant Butchi Babu Gorantla, liquor trader Amandeep Singh Dhall and Arjun Pandey, in the alleged scam. Sisodia was produced before the court on Friday via videoconferencing. The case will be heard again on July 6.
In the high court, additional solicitor general SV Raju (ASG), appearing for ED, submitted that Sisodia could visit his wife under a police escort. "He held 18 portfolios as minister and did not have time to visit his wife. Now he is creating all these grounds to get bail," he argued. The ASG pointed out that Sisodia had withdrawn his interim bail plea only a few days ago and now had approached the court with a similar plea again.
The high court has reserved its verdict on regular bail pleas of Sisodia and Vijay Nair, another accused. On May 30, the court denied bail to Sisodia in the CBI case regarding the alleged scam.
While CBI has filed two chargesheets so far, ED has filed five chargesheets on November 26, 2022, January 6, 2023, April 6 and 27, and May 4 in the related money laundering case, naming 29 individuals and companies, including Sisodia.
