SUV on wrong side mows down man on bike
In another crash, an unidentified vehicle hit an auto near Subhash Chowk underpass, killing a woman.
GURGAON: A 28-year-old man died on Thursday near Ghamroj toll plaza on Sohna road when an SUV, which was being driven on the wrong side, collided with his bike.
The deceased has been identified as Rohit Kumar, a resident of Khuntpuri village. He worked at a snack food company’s outlet in Sector 65. Rohit’s cousin, Shamsher Singh, told police that the duo met near Maruti Kunj around 6pm on Thursday and then they started for their home.
“I was tailing his bike on my bike as we headed to Khuntipur village. We both crossed the Ghamroj toll plaza and were heading towards Sohna road, when all of sudden a speeding Toyota Fortuner, coming from the opposite site collided with Rohit’s bike,” Shamsher told Bhondsi police.
He further said Rohit fell on the road and suffered grievous injuries. “Rohit was wearing a helmet and following traffic rules. I stopped my bike and picked him up with the help of passersby who gathered at the spot.
The SUV driver, however, managed to flee leaving his vehicle. We arranged an ambulance from the toll plaza and took Rohit to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” Shamsher said.
An FIR under sections 279 (rash riding or driving ) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered at Bhondsi police station. “We have started investigation and will arrest the driver soon. In the meantime, we are also scanning the CCTV footage of the area for more clarity into the case,” an investigation officer said.
In a similar incident, a 25-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday after the auto she was travelling in was hit by a vehicle on Subhash Chowk underpass.
The deceased has been identified as Jyoti. Her cousin told police that she along with her friend Kajal were going towards Rajiv Chowk when the accident happened. “They took an autorickshaw and when the three-wheeler came out of the underpass, a speeding vehicle rammed into it from behind and fled the spot. Due to serious injuries, my sister was rushed to a private hospital where she died during treatment,” Rahul Kumar said.
Sadar police registered an FIR under sections 279 (rash riding or driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 338 (causing grievous hurt) of the IPC. “We have identified the vehicle and the driver will be arrested soon,” an officer said.
