PM gave yoga new identity at global level: Jaideep Arya
Varanasi: The general secretary of the National Yogasan Sports Federation, Jaideep Arya said that yogasan has been a part of India’s culture and civilization since ancient times. But at the global level, this culture of India has been given a new identity by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is the result of his efforts and initiative that today yoga is being celebrated all over the world. People doing yoga can be seen not only in Europe but also in Latin American and African countries.
Arya, who is also the chairman of the Haryana Yoga Commission, attended the yogasana competition of the Khelo India University Games organised at the indoor hall of Ramesh Srinivasan Student Activity Center of IIT (BHU). Talking to reporters on Friday, he said that the exercise to give world class recognition to yogasan in the world of sports has started, and India has a leading role to play in this. He said that the golden age of Yogasana is about to come in India. Yogasan sports are getting a lot of encouragement at the government level, he said, adding that as a result of the government’s efforts, yogasana has become a sport with the maximum number of players in the University Games.
Arya said that Yogasan Federation is preparing a new crop of young athletes in 30 states of the country. The National Yogasan Sports Federation, which is recognized by the Central government, is working at the national level. The Sports Authority of India is running many programmes to connect women with sports. The women and youth are joining sports in significant numbers, he added.
He further said that the Women’s League of Yogasan’s ‘10 Ka Dum’ was organised from March 8 to 12, in which a total of 2,500 women from 10 states participated. This is such a league in which women can keep themselves healthy with the help of yogasanas while staying at home, he added.
Arya said that yogasan sports are being organised in about 40 countries of the world including India which is a record in itself. In the coming days, Indian Yogasan athletes will be seen waving the flag of their talent in the Asian Championship and World Yogasan Tournament, he said.
