CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A man suffered a bullet injury after a youth embroiled in a fight with his son shot at the 50-year-old as he tried to intervene and end the duo's quarrel.
The incident occurred late on Thursday night in Siddharthnagar area under the Bhagyanagar police station of Nanded. The matter caused temporary tension in the area. The injured was identified as Sahebrao Jogdand. He has been admitted to Vishnupuri-based government medical college and hospital.
The suspect has criminal offences registered against him. He fled the spot and police teams were sent out to nab him. Preliminary reports suggest the suspect did not have a licence and the round was fired from a countrymade illegal firearm.
Additional SP Abhinash Kumar, local crime branch inspector Dwarkadas Chikhalikar and others rushed to the spot. During the spot panchanama, an empty shell of the fired round was recovered. Kumar said the suspect and the victim stay in the same area.
"An argument broke out between the accused and Jogdand's son on Thursday evening. The man tried to calm the two youths down and patch up the situation. However, the attempt did not go down well with the suspect who started arguing heatedly with Jogdand. Suddenly, he drew out a firearm and shot a round at his friend's father," said an officer.
Hearing sounds of firing, people from the locality gathered. Sensing trouble, the suspect fled. Kumar told TOI that an argument had first broken out between the two around 6 pm, following which the suspect left in a huff. Later, the youth reached Jogdand's place along with seven others.
"An FIR has been registered against four identified and three unidentified suspects who have been booked for attempt to murder, unlawful assembly, rioting of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act," he added.
