9 of all-woman gang from Bengal held for shoplifting
Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police on Friday arrested nine members of an all-woman gang for allegedly shoplifting from different malls in the city.
All the arrested women, who are in their 30s and 40s, hail from one particular village under Bizpore police station area in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, police sources said.
Nayapalli police here had received two separate complaints of shoplifting in last three days. During verification of the CCTV cameras of the two malls, the police found a group of women stealing various products and hiding them inside their saris before leaving.
“We nabbed three of their members on Friday when they were again trying to steal some articles from one of the crowded malls they had targeted on May 31. Even though they were aware of the presence of CCTV cameras in the malls, they tried to dodge the screens and committed theft by lowering their heads,” assistant commissioner of police (zone-5) Sanjeev Satpathy told.
After questioning the trio, the police raided a guesthouse in Khandagiri area here and arrested six of their associates. Police said that the gang has a total of 13 members. They checked into five rooms of the guesthouse last week by introducing themselves as tourists.
