Ludhiana: To mark World Environment Day, the department of extension education and communication management,
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a door-to-door campaign in the Jandiali village to encourage villagers to protect the environment.
The team working under the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) - Women in Agriculture (WIA) visited the adopted families under nutri-smart village programme to monitor the nutri-gardens raised by them. The families were provided vegetable seed kits and plants on the occasion.
Scientist Ritu Mittal Gupta provided tips for better management of nutri-gardens.
Experts tested potable water of all the adopted households and told the farm families about safe and judicious use of water. Village sarpanch Uday Raj Gill thanked the experts for their services.
AICRP center – PAU, under the department of human development and family studies, also conducted a door-to-door plantation drive in households and two anganwadi centres of the Baini Baringa village, Raikot, which has also been adopted by the centre, under the nutri smart village programme.
Around 34 families, anganwadi workers and helpers participated in the event.
AICRP-WIA scientist Prachi Bisht delivered a talk on sustainable practices and lifestyle. Emphasis was given on the importance of sustainable food choices and need for reducing waste.
