AAP to start door-to-door campaign for 'Maha Rally'

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party will soon start a door-to-door campaign for the June 11 Maha Rally it has planned at Ramlila Maidan to make people aware about the recent ordinance brought by the Centre to overturn the Supreme Court judgment giving control over services to the elected dispensation.
AAP Delhi state convenor and minister Gopal Rai convened a meeting with party office-bearers on Friday to delegate responsibilities and expedite preparations for the event.
After the meeting, Rai said that corner meetings will be held in all districts and party workers would conduct door-to-door campaigns across the city, urging people to participate in the rally against the ordinance.
The party also assigned specific Lok Sabha constituencies to each of its seven state vice-presidents to oversee the preparations for the rally.
While Timarpur MLA Dilip Pandey will be responsible for East Delhi, Jarnail Singh has been assigned New Delhi. South Delhi will be looked after by Gulab Singh and Jitendra Tomar has been given charge of West Delhi, Shri Rajesh Gupta for West North Delhi, Shri Ritu Raj Jha for Chandni Chowk, and Shri Kuldeep Kumar for North East Delhi. Additionally, all MLAs and councillors have been given separate responsibilities for the event.
Rai said: "The fight against the authoritarian rule of the BJP government will intensify nationwide. Despite the decision of the country's Supreme Court, the BJP-led central government has nullified it through the introduction of an ordinance. The rights of the people of Delhi have been violated."
The AAP has been battling an ordinance, promulgated on May 19, by the Centre which brought under its ambit the powers to appoint and take disciplinary actions against Group 'A' officers from the DANICS cadre.
The Delhi government was given executive power in services matters, including transfer and posting of officers in an important verdict by the Supreme Court in May, a move that was offset by the ordinance.
Rai said: "On June 11, the residents of Delhi will express their discontent and indignation with this ordinance. We appeal to all of Delhi, regardless of political affiliation, to unite and raise your voice against this ordinance." He said: "Our country's Constitution grants every citizen the right to vote and any attempt to suppress this right must be met with public opposition."
