MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena (UBT) will hold a mega plenary of its office-bearers in Worli on June 18, a day ahead of the Shiv Sena’s foundation day. Worli is the constituency of Sena (UBT) leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray.
This will be the first such mega session of the Sena (UBT) after CM Eknath Shinde rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray along with 40 MLAs, with the Election Commission of India later recognizing his faction as the real Shiv Sena and allotting it the party name and ‘bow and arrow’ symbol.
“This is not a rally, it is a mega session that will run the whole day. Office-bearers from Maharashtra and other parts of India will be present. We are expecting 10,000 office-bearers to be there. To kick this (Shinde-Fadnavis) illegal government out will be the main agenda of this meeting. The kind of betrayal they have done, we will give them a fitting reply,” Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said.
Sena (UBT) functionaries said the party may pass political resolutions reiterating that Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray was the Shiv Sena president.
The Sena’s foundation day will be celebrated by the Sena (UBT) on June 19 in the city. The Sena led by CM Shinde is also planning celebrations for Sena’s foundation day. Meanwhile, commenting on the meeting between NCP chief Sharad Pawar and CM Eknath Shinde on Thursday, Raut said the politics of the state had not been stirred up with the visit, but “the CM’s throne would soon shake.” Raut also said that sharing of seats within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls will be done very smoothly.
“What politics can be there in a prominent leader going to invite a person sitting in the state CM’s post? Sharad Pawar is the main leader of the Maha Vikas Aghadi… If Pawar and the chief minister have met, it is a formal meeting. Pawar went to give an invitation for a function of his institution. This is not an issue that concerns people,” Raut said.
Pawar had called on the CM at his official residence, Varsha, to invite him for the 75th foundation day function of Maratha Mandir trust. “As head of Maratha Mandir trust, I invited him for the 75th year celebrations,” Pawar had tweeted. The event is scheduled to be held in the last week of June.
