Court acquits Navi Mum engineer in bribery case
Thane: A special Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Thane acquitted an engineer of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) who was trapped for demanding and accepting bribe in 2017.
Accused Rakesh Nimesh, 43, was acquitted by the Special ACB Judge DB Bangde in its recent order.
The prosecutor told the court that on November 16, 2007 the alleged accused had at his office made a demand and accepted a sum of Rs2,000 from two applicants (Rs 1,000 each) for water tap connection permissions.
Subsequently a case was registered and the accused was tried.
The defence counsel Adv. Vijay Sali contested the entire charge against the alleged accused and said that he had no role to play in the alleged demand and acceptance of gratification and hence needs to be freed of the charges.
In his order the judge noted, “..It is clear from the evidence of the prosecution witnesses that it was the only duty of the accused to give technical report in respect of tap connection which he had accomplished.”
The judge further added, “..The file of the complainant and his cousin were also found in the cupboard of the prosecution witness. Therefore, no work of the complainant was pending with the accused when he filed the complaint or when the raid was effected.”
