300 families hit as storm lashes Titabar

DIBRUGARH: A powerful storm ripped through Titabar subdivision in Jorhat district on Friday afternoon leaving behind a trail of destruction.
Though the storm accompanied by rain brought the much-needed relief from the sweltering heat, several areas including Titabar town, Dangdhora, Tantigaon, Madhopur, Bengena Khowa, Tipomia, Birinasayek, Seyenli Chuk, Hologuri, Falengi Chuk, Junaki and Amgurikhat were badly hit by it.
The Bengena Khowa area is said to have faced the major brunt of the storm with more than 300 families affected.
Hundreds of trees were uprooted while the roofs of several houses were blown away by the winds. A tree fell on a car parked at Titabar chariali. However, there was no report of injury to anyone.
Power supply was snapped in many places as electric poles were uprooted during the storm.
