Ashok Gehlot on Thursday laid the foundation stone and inaugurated 53 public works department (PWD) projects including roads, ROBs (railway over bridge) and bridges amounting to Rs 3,377.55 crore. Gehlot said in the last 4 years, the state government has built 61,000 km of roads amounting to Rs 30,000 crore. Also, sanctions worth Rs 42,000 crore have been issued for the construction of 70,000 km of roads, he said. "In this way, the state government is building about 1.30 lakh km of roads at a cost of more than Rs 70,000 thousand crore," he added. Gehlot also inaugurated the new portal of the Public Works Department. The portal has been developed by the IT team of the chief minister's office. Gehlot said social and economic development of an area can be ensured only by construction of good roads.
