Nagpur: The police on Thursday attempted to recreate the scene in the room of deceased transporter Ayush Trivedi at Orange City Park in Kamptee, where he was found dead with a bullet injury to the head early on Tuesday morning.
The city police have registered an offence under the Arms Act against Trivedi for using an illegal country-made pistol to shoot himself from point blank range. The unidentified persons who provided him the firearm too have been booked.
Even 48 hours after the incident, the cops are still groping in the dark regarding the manner of the shooting. The cops, who have prima facie described the death as ‘suicidal’, are still unsure about the motive that spurred the young transporter to end his life with an unlicensed country-made pistol. While the pistol was found in his hand, the magazine was found under his chest when the cops reached the place. The door to the room was also open, though no one in the family had heard the gunshot.
Trivedi had an offence of sand theft and sand ghat violations registered against him last year. He had got bail in the matter.
City police chief Amitesh Kumar said an attempt was made, with the help of ballistics experts, to ascertain what may have happened before the gunshot was fired. The experts were also asked to find out how the bullet could have possibly entered the deceased’s head through the back of the head and remained stuck inside the skull. “The case is being probed from different angles and possible involvement of an abettor,” said the CP, adding cops are probing whether there was any angle of drugs consumption too.
Sources said Trivedi, who owned a fleet of trucks and JCBs, suffered a financial set back after the CP had launched a crackdown against sand mafia, however he was not as cash-strapped as it was being projected.
The cops have also not been able to find any bookies or cricket betting related angle behind the suicide or murder as of how.
A senior cop said the investigation team led by Zonal DCP Shravan Dutt had also checked the cellphone of the deceased but could not find any clues there. “Some people are being questioned. There would be some conclusions soon,” said the CP.
