KORAPUT: At least two labourers died and three others sustained injuries after a portion of the under-construction boundary wall of an airstrip collapsed following a gale accompanied with heavy rain in Odisha's Malkangiri district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Manoj Hembram (19) and Tilottama Benia (40).
The injured have been admitted at the district headquarters hospital and their condition is stated to be stable, said police.
"Around 100 meters of the under construction boundary wall collapsed after the Nor'wester hit the district around 4pm and continued for next 15 minutes," said additional district magistrate (Malkangiri) Maheswar Naik.
Meanwhile, the administration is yet to trace the two fishermen who went missing in the Satiguda reservoir, situated on the outskirts of Malkangiri town, after their boats capsized in the reservoir on Thursday evening following the Nor'wester.
"The missing duo had gone for fishing into deep waters but got caught in the gale and the boat capsized. Efforts are on to trace them," said Naik.
According to the officer, a team of ODRAF and fire personnel are in job to find out the duo. The duo are identified as Govind Sarkar (33) and Tulsa Madhi (45), said police.
"There are reports of damages of thatched houses, roads and agricultural fields. Assessment of the damages done by the summer storm is being conducted by our field staffs and details are awaited," said Naik.
