Narendra Modi on Thursday lauded the Tiger Anthem, an initiative of The Times of India, which has garnered over 4 crore views since its launch on May 24. Terming it a “good effort by the @timesofindia group towards highlighting the importance of tiger conservation,” Modi tweeted, “Thanks to the people, our nation has made commendable strides in this area.”
The Anthem closely tracks a playful tiger cub and its doting mother, and bats for their preservation. It is part of TOI’s #SavingOurStripes campaign, launched on April 1 to commemorate 50 years of Project Tiger.
Uttar Pradesh deputy chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also praised the Anthem. “Super video. The love between the tigress and the cub is lovely to watch. I am hopeful that this effort by TOI will help in increasing tiger numbers,” he tweeted.
Many others retweeted and commented on the PM’s tweet. “Made my day”, “Adorable cuties”, “Song bought real happiness” were some of the comments on Twitter.
Shantanu Moitra, who composed the Tiger Anthem, thanked the PM, saying, “This film is special for all of us.” The visuals in the Anthem are by well-known wildlife cinematographer Nalla Muthu, who has won several awards for his films on tigers.
The Anthem was launched by Union environment minister Bhupendra Yadav in Paryavaran Bhavan in New Delhi. Praising the Anthem, he had said, “We can’t imagine living in an Earth in a scenario where only humans survive without animals, birds, trees and mountains”.
In all, three videos accompanying the Tiger Anthem were released by Yadav. The lyrics, written by Tanveer Ghazi, are from the perspective of a tiger cub, pleading to be given to space to thrive and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
