Udhagamandalam: The proposal to develop Etienne’s Road in Ooty at a cost of 3.2 crore was to be carried before the end of the bicentenary celebrations of the founding of Ooty. While the celebrations were completed, the road is yet to get a makeover.
Gandhiraj, the then commissioner of the Ooty municipality, told TOI in February that work of removing encroachments and development of the road stretching 2km would be completed by April itself.
Shermakani, Ooty municipal engineer, told TOI, “As the traffic was more in April and May, police did not permit us to close the road for the work. Besides, unpredictable showers had delayed the start of the work. We will commence the project soon.”
