City traders, students stage dharna in support of wrestlers

Ludhiana: Trade union representatives, students, NGO members and farmers came together on Thursday to stage a protest against the central government, in support of the protesting wrestlers seeking arrest of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment charges.
They also submitted a memorandum to the president of India via Ludhiana deputy commissioner, demanding immediate arrest of the former WFI chief.
According to trade union leader and Communist Party of India (CPI) district secretary D P Maur,“ The central government is hell bent to protect the BJP MP, who has been accused of sexual harassment. PM Modi’s silence on the issue is clear and sends a message that the government is supporting the criminal.”
Maur added, “All justice-loving people came together and strongly opposed this repression. After the rally, the protesters held a demonstration and marched towards the DC office, where a memorandum was submitted.”
