Prayagraj: Authorities of Smart City Mission are working on a proposal to make of e-rickshaw drivers of the city the new ‘Swacchata Doots’ (cleanliness representatives) to spread the message of keeping the city clean.
According to the plan, the Smart City authorities would tie a jute bag on each e-rickshaw, both registered and unregistered, wherein the drivers will ask their passengers to throw the wrappers or packets being discarded by them, while sitting in their vehicle, in these bags.
“We will be motivating these e-rickshaw drivers to become active members to not only keep the city clean and also request their passengers to follow the same,” said mission manager (technical) of the Smart City Project, Prayagraj, SK Sinha.
The plan is to implement the plan in a phased manner, starting from Civil Lines and moving to other localities. The plan also involves providing incentives to the drivers. “The incentives, includes insurance cover, premium of which would be paid through the carbon credit earned by them,” Sinha said.
“Since we have signed a MoU with the IIIT-A, their students will be making an app through which we will get the exact number of e-rickshaws plying in the city. Thus, we will be able to calculate the exact quantity of carbon credit that we have earned and the incentives,” Sinha told TOI.
