Sony ran gameplay of the upcoming “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” title during last week’s PlayStation Showcase. The gameplay demo revealed how players will be able to play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the same game. During the showcase, the action switches between the two characters in a set piece. However, Sony didn’t explain how switching between both the characters in the Spider-Man game will work in the single-player mode. Now, the game’s developer, Insomniac has delved out some information on how the switching feature will work.
"When you're playing the main story, we control when you switch between Pete and Miles... it's done in service to the story when we're making those switches, for sure," said Intihar.
"We have content designed around Peter, we have content designed around Miles and we have content where you can play either. You'll be able to, in the open world, freely switch between them with a simple button press,” he added.
Apart from this, Miles and Peter will each have their own skill trees, the report adds. However, there will be some shared abilities available for both characters that players will also be able to access.
"We saw in the gameplay reveal where Miles has the evolved Venom powers, whereas Peter has the Symbiote abilities. And so those, those change a bit of how you play, and you can upgrade those in their respective trees as well,” game director Ryan Smith said.
The report claims PS5’s capabilities will also ensure that the Grand Theft Auto V-style character switching takes place swiftly. The console’s faster loading times were also evident in the Spider-Man: Miles Morales title. In this game, players can use the fast travel feature to get from one end of the city (Manhattan) to the other in just a couple of seconds.
