The summer transfer window is now around the corner and Man United will be out to improve their squad as they prepare for a return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils have been rejuvenated under Erik ten Hag this season, finishing third, winning the Carabao Cup and still having the FA Cup final to play.

However, they will want to be challenging for the Premier League title next campaign and some huge additions are being targeted to compete with rivals Manchester City at the top of the table.

  • Christian Eriksen has told talkSPORT that he wants Manchester United to embrace the club’s history of winning trophies ahead of the FA Cup final.

When asked how it would feel to leave the club with more trophies on his list of accolades, he said: “The history of the club is silverware.

“They built that up for a long time, winning, winning, winning, and obviously it’s something that you have to do otherwise it’s not a success.

“It’ll be nice whatever happens after, legacy of winning a lot of trophies definitely.”

  • Manchester United have been hit by a setback for Antony ahead of the FA Cup final.

“Unlikely (he will be fit),” he said. “Dos Santos (Antony) still has a chance but it’s a really small chance.

“He didn’t make the progress, so he still has a chance but unlikely he is available.”

  • Andy Cole has claimed Mason Mount won’t improve Manchester United.

Cole was speaking on behalf of BoyleSports about FA Cup Odds: “I know there’s talk of Mason Mount, he’s a decent player who works hard and puts a shift in.

“But Manchester United need someone with that ‘X factor’ and has flair. Someone like Jude Bellingham who drives the team forward.

“None of those Chelsea players improve Manchester United. They can’t be any worse next season otherwise they’ll be in big trouble.”

  • Manchester United legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville both feel that the club need to replace goalkeeper David de Gea.

He told The Overlap: “They do need to get rid of him either now or if they’ve not got the money then obviously a year later is the maximum. I don’t know how much money is there, so they might not be able to replace De Gea and, say, buy Harry Kane – if they were looking to do that – in one hit.

“So they might say, ‘OK, we’ll have to cope with him for another year because we don’t want to spend £50m-£70m on a goalkeeper because we want to get Harry Kane and another player’ and then next year they do that [replace De Gea].

“But I agree with Roy [Keane], a goalkeeper is everything to a league [title], you have to have a brilliant goalkeeper, you have to have an unbelievable goalkeeper.”

  • Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has been released by Nottingham Forest.

Lingard joined the Tricky Trees on a one-year deal after leaving Old Trafford and became their highest earner following the 232 appearances he made for United.

But a mixture of poor form and injuries meant the England international managed just 17 Premier League outings and zero goals for Forest as they survived the drop.

  • Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he will stay in the Saudi football league.

He told the SPL: “The league is very good.

“But I think we have many, many opportunities to still grow. The league is competitive. We have very good teams, very good Arab players, but they need to improve the infrastructure a little bit more.

“Even the referees, the VAR system, should be a little quicker. I think other small things they need to improve.

“But I am happy here, I want to continue here, I will continue here. And in my opinion if they continue to do the work that they want to do here, for the next five years, I think the Saudi league can be a top five league in the world.”

  • Raphael Varane has refuted suggestions he should fear Erling Haaland this weekend.

“Why?” asks the Frenchman in response to the Daily Mail.

“Every game is a challenge and I like to challenge myself, to challenge other teams as a group too.

“The most important thing is to believe. It doesn’t matter if it is a team in good or bad form; the challenge is in front of us and we have to accept it and find a way to win.

“I think we know we are able to beat any team.”

  • Harry Maguire has explained why Manchester United can fancy their chances against Manchester City in the FA Cup final this weekend.

“The fans have been right with us throughout the season and I think they’ve been really important to the success that we’ve had and the positive results that we’ve had,” he told club media.

“I think we’ve seen at Old Trafford, our results have been amazing so we know at Wembley they’re going to be there, they’re going to be loud and it’s a day that we hope we can do them proud.

“The fans at this club are a huge part of the club, they’re right behind the team, you can feel the energy and the intensity that they bring to the matches as well.

“I think obviously last season was such a disappointing year for us all, as players and staff, as fans, just as a club in general, so to bounce back in such a positive manner, I think it’s really, really impressive.

“Experience is a huge thing in football, being there and playing in these big matches, these big pressure moments, it’s really important to have that experience on your side.

“I think across our team now, if you look at our team, we’ve got lads who have won big trophies and lots who have played in a lot of finals, so it’s a good balance of the squad. We’re ready to give it everything.”

  • Raphael Varane has opened up on how his experience at Real Madrid taught him how to stop a team led by Pep Guardiola.

The Manchester United defender told MEN: “I really enjoy playing here for Man United, playing in England and feeling good with my teammates, having a good connection with the fans,” he said.

“I think the similarities [with Barcelona in 2011] are Pep and the style of play from City, but it’s different. I don’t think it’s the same thing but I learned a lot from that period in Madrid.”

  • Gary Neville has urged Erik ten Hag to start forgotten man Fred against Manchester City.

“I don’t want Manchester United to play with Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Christian Eriksen in midfield,” claimed the former defender on the latest episode of The Overlap.

“The game where they won, it was Fred with Casemiro. I just don’t see how City won’t run amok if it’s Casemiro, Eriksen and Fernandes.

“I feel not having that little bit of something to break the play up [could be key]. When he won the game at Old Trafford, I think he played with Fred and Casemiro, with Eriksen in front. Then they had [Marcus] Rashford, [Anthony] Martial and Fernandes to the right.

“The reason I think that works is because City don’t have a left-back going forward and Bruno can tuck in there which means they almost have four in the middle.

“Closing that off and letting City’s left-back have it – who that’s going to be, [Manuel] Akanji or [Nathan] Ake?”

  • Alejandro Garnacho has left Manchester United coaches ‘pleasantly surprised’ by his work ethic during his time injured.

The 18-year-old was sidelined for a period with an ankle issue he sustained in March but returned before the end of the Premier League season and is now hoping to feature in the FA Cup final.

A report from The Athletic has claimed how Garnacho shattered doctors expectations that he wouldn’t be fit enough to return before the end of the campaign with his application to his recovery.

The Argentine is said to have went into Carrington on his days off for extra work and understood United’s decision not to allow him to go to the Under-20 World Cup.

  • Hello and welcome back to talkSPORT’s Man United blog. Our top stories this morning…

United could offer captain Harry Maguire as makeweight in a deal to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea, according to the latest reports.

talkSPORT understands Mount has agreed personal terms with United but the Red Devils are yet to agree a fee with their Premier League rivals.

Chelsea value the 24-year-old midfielder at around £70million and The Sun claims England defender Maguire could be offered as part of the deal.

United are said to consider Maguire’s worth to be around £30m.

Elsewhere, Phil Neville has been sacked as manager of Inter Miami, who are co-owned by former Manchester United teammate David Beckham, it has been announced.

“When we appointed Phil we knew he would give Inter Miami his all and I have watched him work incredibly hard and with real commitment towards the ambitions we set out for the club,” Beckham said.

“He and his family embraced Miami and he has devoted himself to the drive to bring success to the city and to our fans.

“”Phil has made a real contribution to the culture of our club with his qualities as a leader and knowledge as a coach.

“Sometimes in this game we have to make the toughest decisions and sadly we feel the time is right to make a change. I want to personally thank Phil for his hard work, his passion for our club and for his integrity as a person.”

  • Manchester United play Manchester City in the FA Cup final this weekend as they look to seal a domestic double and stop their inner-city rivals from completing the treble.

However, despite beating the Citizens at Old Trafford earlier this year, United start this one as major underdogs.

And Roy Keane is worried the match could be all over if City get the first goal.

Speaking on Sky Bet's The Overlap, Keane said: “My worry for this [Manchester] United team is when they’ve gone behind and have been up against it, they’ve gone under very easily.

“There’s lots of occasions – Liverpool, Sevilla, Brentford, [Manchester] City – you’d hate for that to happen at Wembley against City.

“If City score early, you might start seeing United’s weaknesses right in front of you. That first goal is huge.”

  • Randal Kolo Muani isn’t the only striker that Man United have identified instead of Harry Kane.

talkSPORT understands Atalanta’s 20-year-old Danish international Rasmus Hojlund is also a top target and is believed to be more achievable than Muani.

Hojlund should be available for less than the near £70million Eintracht Frankfurt want for Muani, but it’s unclear just how much would be required.

Plus, the player shares the same representatives as Erik ten Hag, which could play a part.

However, Premier League rivals Chelsea are monitoring Hojlund as well.

  • Manchester United are desperate to sign a striker this summer, with Harry Kane their top target.

But with it currently unclear if Daniel Levy would sanction a move, United are looking elsewhere and have identified Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani as a possible addition.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich, but The Athletic report the Red Devils have held talks over a transfer for Muani.

Frankfurt are open to selling the forward but would demand 80 million Euros (£68.7m).

  • Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United should eye a double raid on Chelsea this summer.

He said: “I think Mateo Kovacic has got a year left – I like him, drives with the ball, he’s different to what we’ve got.

“Mason Mount is an interesting one, if he’s not going to get re-signed at Chelsea he’s interesting because he gets goals and assists.

“I think if he’s available, like he seems he is, I think every one of the top six will be interested in Mason Mount.”

On United’s plans to bring in a few forward, Ferdinand added: “We’ve got a transfer window coming up, we’ve got to go again, this is going to be a really important transfer window, Man United have to get it right.

“Obviously a striker is of huge importance – if it’s not Victor Osimhen or Harry Kane, it’s going to deflate me, if it’s not one of those two players I’d be massively deflated.

“I can’t see anybody else coming in who you see and say, ‘right, I understand that, that’s for immediate results’.

“Imagine Man United had another 25 goals to what they’ve done this season, a player that can change the dynamic in their team completely.

“I think Man United are in a position where they’re going to have to pay a big chunk for one of those two and I’d just go and give it.”

  • Sam Allardyce believes Manchester United can win the Premier League title next season if they complete two key transfers this summer.

The ex-Leeds manager Allardyce said: “I absolutely think that if Manchester United sign Declan Rice and Harry Kane then they would be second favourites to win the Premier League.

“I saw Declan Rice first hand at West Ham away this season. It’s rare that you see a player who has been brought up as a centre half evolve into a central midfield player as well as he has.

“He’s the all-action midfield player, he’s not just a sitting anchor man, he’s everything. He’s a passer and he’s box-to-box, and people might say he doesn’t score enough to be worth £100m, but what he can bring to the team would evolve Manchester United through the middle.

“If Harry Kane and Declan Rice were both through the middle for United then they’d be fighting for spots one and two in the league.”

  • Manchester United manager Eric ten Hag is ready to fight for FA Cup glory against rivals Man City this weekend.

“I think the rivalry is logical and normal on both sides,” Ten Hag told the BBC.

“In the end also you have to respect each other. But, of course, on Saturday we will fight each other.

“We have to stop them, make it our game and we have proved we can beat them. On one day everything is possible.

“It’s a big game. It’s huge but I think any game between Manchester United and Manchester City is huge. But when it’s a final, it’s special of course.”

  • Diogo Dalot says everyone at Manchester United feels like they are ‘at the start of a special journey’ after signing a new deal at the club.

The 11-cap Portugal international said: “Playing for Manchester United is one of the highest honours that you can have in football.

“We have shared some fantastic moments over the past five years and I’ve grown so much and my passion for this incredible club has only increased since the day that I joined.

“As a group of players, we all feel like we are at the start of a special journey right now.

“I can assure you that I will dedicate myself relentlessly to helping this group to achieve our aims and make the fans proud of this team.

“That drive continues this week with everyone intensely focused on preparations for the FA Cup final.”

United football director John Murtough added: “Diogo is an excellent defender, with a great combination of pace, strength and versatility.

“He has consistently developed, improving year-on-year since joining the club in 2018.

“Diogo’s work ethic and professionalism is superb; the way in which he prepares himself every day in order to perform at his highest level is exactly what we all want from a Manchester United player.

“Diogo has a strong mentality, high standards and a great personality, and we are delighted that he will remain an important member of the squad for the coming years.”

  • John O’Shea knows there’s more at stake than just the FA Cup trophy for Manchester United this weekend.

Erik ten Hag’s men face Man City at Wembley in the cup final on Saturday.

And as well as claiming another piece of silverware for themselves, United will be eager to win to stop the champions’ pursuit of the treble.

  • Bruno Fernandes would love to see Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos join him at Manchester United.

Speaking to A Bola, Fernandes said: “The best always come in handy, be it Goncalo or another player.

“He has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United.

“I think he could become a great player in the coming years, but it’s still not in my hands to decide.

“Goncalo has all the attributes to play in the Premier League, he is very intense, presses very well and is very good inside the area.”

  • Big news coming out of Paris Saint-Germain this lunchtime and it has been confirmed that Lionel Messi will leave the club this summer.

PSG manager Christophe Galtier has just announced the World Cup winner will depart at the end of the season.

“I had a privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football,” he said. “It will be Leo’s last match at the Parc des Princes against Clermont.”

  • Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Rangers are closing in on a deal for Jack Butland.

Butland joined Man United on loan in January and did not make a senior appearance for the club.

He’s now set to move on again with Rangers keen while United will need a new back-up goalkeeper.

  • Manchester United defender Phil Jones has thanked the fans for their ‘love and support’ as he prepares to leave the club.

Jones is set to depart United this summer after over a decade of service at Old Trafford.

Ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup final clash against Man City, he wrote on social media: “I want to express my thanks to everyone who has shown love and support to me over the last week.

“I’ve always known how special the United fanbase is but this week has brought home to me how special you all are.

“I hope you all enjoy the FA Cup final this weekend, I’ll be supporting the lads from the stands and backing them to win just as much as you.”
