Koraput: The 76-year-old Vikram Deb Autonomous College of Jeypore was upgraded to an affiliated university on Thursday. However, the state government has not yet made the appointments needed to run the institution.
The posts of vice-chancellor, registrar, controller of finances, and controller of examinations, among others, have not yet been filled, leaving uncertainty regarding the status of the college as it transforms into a university.
According to a notification published by the department of higher education of the state government, the college will be identified as Vikram Deb University from June 1, by altering the territorial jurisdiction of Berhampur University.
Meanwhile, the incumbent principal has written to the higher secondary department requesting to be relieved from the post due to the transition.
Regional director of education for Jeypore, T P Rath, has stated that an officer on special duty (OSD) will be appointed soon and other necessary appointments will follow shortly.
“Once the university is founded, it will associate all degree-granting institutions in the southern Odisha districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada, with the exception of technical institutes. The new varsity will oversee about 50 institutions in these four areas,” said Rath.
