NTK leader’s Twitter account ‘withheld’ after post backing wrestlers' protest
CHENNAI: The official Twitter account of Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman was ‘withheld’ on Wednesday minutes after he posted a statement on the microblogging site backing the ongoing protest against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, saying the BJP government led by PM Narendra Modi is refusing to give justice to the female wrestlers and is protecting a ‘sex offender’.
“The Modi government’s tyrannical act of refusing to give justice to female wrestlers and protecting a sex offender is the biggest setback for India on the world stage! The Modi government’s protection from arresting sex offenders and the police attack on the victims... is unbecoming tyranny,” Seeman’s statement said. Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin condemned Twitter’s action and demanded that Seeman’s account be restored. Twitter had ‘withheld in India’ the accounts of Seeman, 20 other NTK members and social activist Thirumurugan Gandhi “in response to a legal demand” soon after Seeman posted his statement and the same was retweeted.
