Nagpur: City police chief Amitesh Kumar on Thursday reviewed 117 cases being probed by the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) during an open hearing. The cases, which included 47 applications, were pending over a long time.
It’s learnt that Kumar, accompanied by DCP EOW Archit Chandak and others, heard the issues and grievances of each complainant in presence of the investigation officers. The grievances ranged from delays in disposal to complainant not getting any relief despite the police action.
The CP said that a wide range of cases pertaining to land grabbing, agreements not honoured, partnership frauds, investment frauds, and depositors being cheated were reviewed among others.
“The case status, observation of the investigation officers and the grievances of the complaints were being meticulously done for each case,” said the top cop, adding that police are not a recovery agency for any individual’s losses, but crimes registered need to be taken to the logical conclusion.
The CP also said around 47 such applications dealt with complaints that were pending before the EOW for long but not registered due to some technical reasons. “We have decided to register around 10 fresh offences while many cases were shut for want of any potential evidence or culpability,” said the top cop.
Kumar added that the investigation officers have been asked to speed up probe in each case and present them for legal scrutiny along with the approval from the seniors of the departments before filing a chargesheets.
DCP Chandak was instructed to give hearing to both the applicants and non-applicants in cases where it can lead to quick disposals. “Some complainants sounded eager to not proceed further after a part of the amount they were duped of was settled by the non-applicants or the accused,” said the CP. He hoped that all the pending cases before the EOW would now pick pace and head to logical conclusions.
