MADIKERI: Burglars are on the prowl in Nellihudikeri under Siddapura police station limits as a series of break-in cases have been reported in the area in the last three weeks.
Panic has gripped the residents after robbers broke into a house on School Road on May 19 and decamped with a gold chain, belonging to the woman inmate. On the same night, burglars struck at the house of Afsal, who is a gram panchayat member. There have been incidents where gold chains, cash worth lakhs and mobile phones were stolen.
A cellphone was stolen from the residence of Askar of Holekere on May 29. On the same night, around 3am, burglars tried to break into the house of Sharan near MG Colony. According to sources, miscreants have burgled more than ten houses in Nellihudikeri in the last 20-25 days. Most of the incidents were between 2am and 3am. The locals have complained to Madikeri MLA Manthargowda about the increasing burglaries in the area.
Meanwhile, Siddapur police said they have intensified night beats and surveillance in the area. The officials said that they have got clues regarding the gang.
