LUDHIANA: After conducting a meeting with the senior officials at Ludhiana, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Chairman Vijay Sampla on Friday asked the Ludhiana Administration to complete all the verifications and release the pending salaries of the sewage and sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL), till July 2.
Taking strong notice of the hardship being faced by the sewage and sanitation workers, who have not received their salaries for the past few months, Vijay Sampla on Friday visited Ludhiana to conduct a meeting with the district administration and municipal corporation officials to resolve the matter.
Sampla first interacted with the sewage and sanitation workers and after taking note of their concerns, he held a meeting with the senior officials of Ludhiana Administration and Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL). The meeting was attended by Ludhiana deputy commissioner Surabhi Malik; Commissioner of police Mandeep Singh Sidhu; Municipal corporation commissioner Sheena Aggarwal; and Additional deputy commissioner Rahul Chaba.
While sharing details, Sampla informed, “Recently, the NCSC has received a complaint from one Vicky Sahota, member of “Sewerman safai karamchari sangharsh committee”, saying that even when the employees have been regularised, they are not getting salaries by the civic body. The administration officials apprised that the employees were given appointment letters but their joining has not been done so far due to pending police verifications and other formalities."
“The commissioner of police ensured that the city police will complete the police verification of the employees within a week whereas the deputy commissioner also told NCSC that the other formalities will also be done in a week’s time to ensure speedy release of pending salaries of the MC employees”, Sampla informed.
Sampla further said that the Ludhiana Administration has been asked to complete the pending formalities and release the salaries by July 2. “If the required action is not done till July 2, the officials will be summoned for a meeting at New Delhi on July 4 with the action taken report”, Sampla said.
The workers are facing financial difficulties and are facing challenges to meet their daily needs, due to the delay in getting salaries, the complainants said to the NCSC chairman on Friday.
