Mangaluru: The department of higher education has written to Mangalore University to modify its logo, by giving prominence to Kannada in it, by placing it on top.
In a letter dated May 29, Nandakumar B, undersecretary to the government, department of higher education, referring to the visit of officials from the Kannada Development Authority, suggested that more prominence be given to Kannada letters in the logo.
The current logo has the title of ‘Mangalore University’ in English on top, and the same in Kannada at the bottom of the logo.
The authority, during its inspection, directed the university to bring in appropriate changes, so that Kannada is given prominence.
Accordingly, the university syndicate on July 23, 2022, decided to make necessary changes to the logo. The department has directed the university to take appropriate action as per the decision taken by the university syndicate.
Kishore Kumar CK, registrar, Mangalore University, said that the issue was discussed during the syndicate meeting held on July 23, 2022.
“Since there is no discretionary power for MU to change its logo, we wrote to the department of higher education to provide guidance and share an opinion. Since the government has written to us on the issue, we discussed the issue with the syndicate and decided on it,” he said.
