Panaji: Four persons have been arrested by Old Goa police on Thursday in connection with a murder at Chimbel on Wednesday late night.
Police said that brothers — Parshuram Gaunder and Subramanyam Gaunder — were residing in the same house and were not on talking terms with each other over a property issue. On Wednesday night, Parshuram’s family went to Subramanyam’s house to question them.
Deepesh Mane, a relative of Gaunder, in his complaint said that the accused persons — Pratiksha (Parshuram’s wife), Lingnath Palyekar and Hemant Palyekar — came to his house and started abusing with filthy words and threatened them. The accused persons slapped Gaunder’s 17-year-old son and also pelted stones due to which the teenager sustained injuries to his head.
“Lingnath stabbed Murgan Gaunder in the chest with a knife due to which he succumbed to the injuries sustained during the fight,” Old Goa PI Satish Padwalkar said.
After the crime was reported, four teams were constituted and a hunt was launched for the accused, he said.
“We moved swiftly to nab the accused. Four teams of Old Goa police rushed to different locations. Nakabandis were put in place. We were successful in nabbing Linganath, Pratiksha and Parshuram in the early hours of Thursday,” he said.
“Hemant, who was trying to leave the state via Chorla Ghat to avoid arrest, was also apprehended,” the Old Goa PI said. He said that the FIR was registered under various Sections of IPC, including murder and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act.
Police said that the accused — Pratiksha, Lingnath, Hemant and Parshuram — with their common intention attacked the complainant’s brother-in-law Murgan Gaunder.
Police sent the body to GMC for autopsy and later it was handed over to the family to perform final rites.
All the accused will be produced before a local court for police custody, he said.
