CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi, chief minister M K Stalin, MNM leader Kamal Haasan, AMMK leader T T V Dhinakaran and others greeted music director Ilayaraja on his 80th birthday.
“You, with profound devotion and utmost dedication to music, have won hearts of millions of music lovers. Your extraordinary contribution will be our national legacy for time to come. Your extraordinary human qualities are a lesson in humility for the younger generations,” the governor tweeted.
Stalin called on Ilayaraja at his residence and greeted him. “Ilayaraja is the choice -- to start a morning well, to make travel memorable, to turn happy moments into celebrations and to make nights soothing,” Stalin tweeted.
Stalin said Ilayaraja “is not a revolution in just the film world, but in the entire music world. That is why Kalaignar Karunanidhi bestowed the title of ‘Isaignani’ on Ilayaraja, after being mesmerised by his music.”
Stalin said Ilayaraja would always remain a king in the hearts of the people, who have been enthralled by his music. He wished Ilayaraja good health to celebrate his centenary grandly.
Kamal Haasan said, “An era of film music is continuing to entertain many generations of people. Ilayaraja has established himself as the indomitable king of the music world. My hearty wishes to brother Ilayaraja, who has achieved great heights in music.”
In his birthday message, Dhinakaran said Ilayaraja had taken Tamil and spiritualism to greater heights through his music.
