PUNE: The Kondhwa police on Wednesday detained a man (22), after a 16-year-old girl from his locality revealed to the counsellor of a "good touch, bad touch" session in her school that he raped her sometime between 2019 and 2020.
Inspector Sanjay Mogle (
crime) on Thursday said, "The counsellor conducted a preliminary inquiry and later reported the incident to police for action. But the girl and her parents were not keen on a complaint because of social stigma."
Mogle said, "A woman police officer also counselled the girl and convinced her to lodge a complaint for taking action against her tormentor."
He said, "After gaining confidence, the girl lodged the complaint related to rape under the Indian Penal Code and Protection to Children from Sexual Offences Act. Based on the information given by her, we have taken the youth, a labourer, into custody for questioning."
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
