PATNA: A Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil service aspirant, who was shot at by a criminal last week, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital here on Thursday.
The deceased, Rahul Kumar Ojha, had come to Patna from Buxar on May 27 to appear for UPSC civil services (prelims) examination the next day. He was walking to his friend's house from Rajendra Nagar railway station when the criminal, Shubham Kumar alias Nepali, tried to snatch his cellphone and bag.
When Ojha resisted, the criminal fired at him and fled. Even after being shot, Rahul reached a private hospital and got himself admitted there. The doctors removed a bullet from Ojha's stomach and then referred him to another private hospital.
Dr Nitesh, medical superintendent of the private hospital while Ojha was admitted on May 29, said, "He was on ventilator when he came here. One operation was conducted at the hospital where he was earlier admitted. He was re-operated here, but his intestine was damaged due to the gunshot and the infection increased, resulting in his death."
SHO of Kadamkuan police station Sudhir Kumar said Shubham, a "psycho killer", was arrested a day after the incident. A betel shopkeeper, Sahil Chaurasia, was also shot dead by Shubham on the same day.
