Kanpur: A 16-year-old girl inmate of Swaroop Nagar’s Government Women’s Shelter Home (Nari Niketan) undergoing treatment at Lala Lajpat Rai hospital, died on Wednesday.
According to sources, the girl was unwell since past few days and was admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital on Wednesday where she died during treatment.
However, the girl’s father, a native of Badaun, alleged foul-play and has demanded a transparent probe in the matter. He reached the shelter home on Thursday. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
The girl’s father said that his 16-year-old daughter had an affair and eloped with her lover last year. An FIR was lodged in this case and later the police recovered her. As she did not want to return home she was kept in Badaun Nari Niketan initially from where she was shifted to Kanpur in December 2022.
The father told the media that his daughter was completely healthy when he had last spoken to her about two months ago.
“She did not have any disease. On Wednesday, however, I got a call from Swaroop Nagar’s Government Women’s Shelter Home and I was told that my daughter was unwell and was admitted to the LLR hospital,” he said adding that, “Somehow, I reached Kanpur on Thursday. After coming to Shelter Home, I came to know that my daughter had succumbed during treatment.” There should be a fair inquiry into his daughter’s death, he added.
DCP Central Pramod Kumar said that further action will be taken on the basis of a post mortem report. “At present, the process of post-mortem is underway by a panel of doctors under the supervision of SDM,” said DCP further. tnn
