NEW DELHI: Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said that the government should not splurge on freebies and argued that
employment generation is not about creating
government jobs.
“We are looking at opportunities for work. People also realise that ultimately, it’s work that is going to matter... a government job is possibly what the Opposition keeps referring to. I hope they understand that some of their actions are hurting India big. When they go around passing these freebies, they are not empowering the people of India, they are weakening India’s potential for the future,” he said.
Goyal said some states are investing in bolstering power infrastructure. “Unfortunately, Delhi is one of them. I am actually worried for the people of Delhi given the way they are splurging government money.”
The minister also said that several opposition MPs have privately expressed their “frustration” at the hold up in Parliament.
