AYODHYA: A section of Ayodhya seers have thrown their weight behind the outgoing president of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and
BJP MP Brij Bhushan Saran Singh, who is facing allegations of sexual harassment of female wrestlers and said they will be attending the June 5 rally called by Singh in Ayodhya to show their solidarity.
Source said ever since the controversy and the subsequent FIR, Singh has been in regular touch with seers of Ayodhya. In the last few days, he has held many meetings with the saints of Ayodhya and adjoining districts.
Mahant Kamal Nayan Das of Maniram Chawni temple, said: "Singh has been falsely implicated and all the allegations are politically motivated. We demand action against those who have raised the controversy. Innocent people are being harassed in the name of Pocso Act. Fake allegations of Pocso Act are made against seers, mahants and politicians and this must end."
Meanwhile, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait visited Ayodhya on Wednesday and said: "There is no respect for women and sportspersons in the country. The wrestlers went to Haridwar yesterday to immerse their medals in Ganga. This is the country's misfortune. They have given 5 days to the government to act."
