KALYAN: As the 8.27am local train pulled into Ambernath station, a loud applause filled the air. Regular commuters cheered for motorman, M K Purushottam, who turned 60 on Wednesday and was to retire from service the same day.
Regular commuters expressed their gratitude for the local train and the railway employee at Ambernath station on Wednesday by according a farewell just as the train was about to set out with the retiring motorman on his last morning trip. The motorman's cabin was decked out with flowers. The emotional farewell at the station went viral on social media.
Tanmoy Adak who shared a video on Twitter said, "Motorman of Ambernath starting at 8.27 am local retired today... Few things which only #Mumbaikar can relate to..."
Tushar Bhamare, another commuter who had posted a video on social media told TOI, "Usually, you find people targeting railways, but this was different."
The retiring motorman told TOI, "It was a surprise... I never expected a farewell from passengers."
