GAYA: Unidentified miscreants hurled bombs at the house of a former mukhiya and BJP functionary Santosh Kumar Gupta at Karmauni village under the Dobhi police station area of Sherghati sub-division on Gaya-Dobhi road, around 27 km from the district headquarters, in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Several window panes of the house were shattered in the blast. However, Gupta and his family members are safe.
BJP district vice-president Yugesh Kumar said, "Santosh Gupta has worked as district vice-president. He is an active member of the party at present." ASP and Sherghati sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) K Ramdas, who arrived at the spot, said: "The CCTV footage shows two persons fleeing on a bike. They could not be identified as both had covered their faces. Police defused two live bombs recovered from the spot. All the bombs were country-made. Forensic test report will confirm the intensity of the bombs."
He added: "I have asked Dobhi SHO and the patrolling officer to ensure security of Gupta and his family members."
Santosh said: "I heard a loud noise every alternate second around 2.47 am on Wednesday. From the intensity of noise I realized, criminals have attacked my house. At 2.56 am I informed the police. The attack is well planned to create pressure so that I am forced to compromise in the case of extortion and contract killing bid for which I have lodged an FIR against two persons. In fact, some locals had resorted to at least 100-150 round of firing during a clash between two communities in 2019 in which several people were sent to jail. I had opposed their bid. Since then, those people are creating disturbances for me." " It is at Karmauni where terrorist Tausif Pathan stayed for many years before being caught in 2017 and he enjoyed patronage of these people, who are behind the attack," he said.
Tausif is one among the 38 convicts who were awarded capital punishment in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts. Presently, he is lodged in Gaya Central Jail.
Gaya town BJP MLA Prem Kumar, who visited the house of Gupta, said: "There is no rule of law in Bihar and 'jungle raj' has returned. Morale of the criminals is high and the common people are apprehensive. If police fail to arrest the criminals behind the bomb attack, BJP will launch an agitation."
