DMK supports Arvind Kejriwal’s fight against 'Delhi ordinance'

CHENNAI: Extending support to Aam Aadmi Party’s fight against ordinance promulgated by the Centre nullifying the Supreme Court order that granted the Delhi government control of bureaucracy and services, Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday appealed to the chief ministers of all states and all India leaders of political parties to extend support.
Flanked by Kejriwal and his colleague, and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP senior leaders, Stalin told reporters at his residence that the Modi-led BJP government at the Centre was giving a lot of trouble to the elected Delhi government.
"The five-member SC bench has given a favourable order to the Delhi government regarding services. But the BJP government has promulgated an ordinance to check that. The DMK will strongly oppose this ordinance (when the Centre introduces a bill in Parliament to replace the ordinance in the upcoming session)," Stalin said.

Expressing happiness that the meeting had taken place in a very healthy and spirited way to protect democracy in the country, Stalin said such coordination was necessary to preserve democracy. “It is my desire that this should continue, not just for the sake of Parliament elections, but to save democracy,” he added.
Asked about Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s opposition parties’ meeting scheduled to take place on June 12, aimed at forging unity of the non-BJP parties ahead of 2024 LS polls, the DMK president said he would not be able to attend as he was to take part in opening of Mettur sluices the same day. “The Congress is also unable to participate as Rahul has gone abroad. Kharge and I have asked for a change of date. I told Kejriwal as well now. He said he was trying to change it and would change it,” Stalin said.
