ARA: A 25-year-old woman, who is undergoing treatment at Ara sadar hospital for severe injuries in her both arms, has alleged that she was beaten up by her father-in-law at Babhangaon village under Krishnagarh police station in Bhojpur district on Tuesday afternoon. The incident happened when she returned from her parents' house at Aaina village in Buxar district, police said on Wednesday.
"As soon as I returned after attending my sister's wedding and tried to enter my husband's house, my father-in-law did not let me enter and asked me to get out. He also asked me if I have brought money, if not then I could not live there. When I protested by saying that this is my husband's house and where would I go, he beat me up with a stick. My husband also takes sides of his parents," alleges Vandana Kumari, who was married to Rohit in 2016.
Krishnagarh SHO Sandip Kumar told this newspaper that the injured woman's husband works in Delhi and he refused to live with his wife. "We contacted him over the phone and tried to counsel him to reach an amicable settlement. However, Rohit refused to live with his wife. In fact, a divorce case is going on between the couple."
The SHO said, "The police during the probe came to know that persons from both sides got injured in the scuffle between the woman and her in-laws. We will once again try to make both sides reach a settlement on the issue. However, both parties claimed that they would lodge a case after they recover from their injuries."
Meanwhile, a local lawyer said that as long as the divorce case was going on between the couple, the woman can live at her in-laws' house till both reach a final settlement.
